Course description
This is our all new action week in dynamic water. Here we get you further experience and develop your confidence in bigger conditions out at sea, managing bigger surf launches and landings and the planning and skills around paddling in tide races. If conditions allow, our first choice location is on la Pointe de Raz on the Atlantic coast. This exposed region offers first-class surf beaches, stunning scenery and of course the famous Cap de Raz Tide Race, a fast-flowing headland with tidal speeds ranging from 6 – 14 km per hour.
Prerequisites
You should feel comfortable in moderate surf and dynamic water and have the desire to get into more challenging conditions. You should also be comfortable paddling in wind and waves for over 20km in a day. Rolling is an advantage but not a prerequisite. If you’d like to get some further technical inputs before your trip, we recommend visiting one of our Fine-Tuning courses. This can give you the opportunity to already sharpen your skills in order to put them into practice and get the most out of your time out on the sea.
If you’re in doubt don’t hesitate to get in touch and Dave can come back to you to discuss your needs or questions.

Accommodation
Accommodation is not included in the course fee. There are camping and accommodation options in Plogoff but we book accommodation last minute as it’s not also possible to paddle in the Cap de Raz area and we may have to change locations at short notice. This will be communicated depending on the weather forecasts a week before. At this time of year, there are always options available.
Location
Plogoff, Cap Sizun or otherwise another location depending on possibilities, to be decided a week before the trip.
Getting there
Help reduce our environmental footprint by using public transport. There are good railway connections to Quimper, and we can arrange a pick-up from there for you. Quimper is around 8 hours from Basel. Your journey is bookable on sncf connect.
We can also help with equipment and boat transport in advance.
If travelling by rail is not possible, we otherwise encourage car sharing. Driving to the region takes around 12 hours from Interlaken.
Meeting Point
Quimper at 19:00 or otherwise to be confirmed a week before the trip

Coaching Philosophy
At Hightide, we believe in coaching the individual. Our courses start from where you are and guide you toward your personal paddling goals.
For some, this means building confidence to paddle and enjoy nature. For others, it’s about improving efficiency for expeditions or long-distance paddling. It could also involve developing the skills to venture onto the sea or mastering techniques for rivers, rock gardens, and surf.
Whatever your aim, our extensive experience on the ocean and deep understanding of sea kayaking will help you move forward. All our coaches come from a sea kayaking background, hold professional qualifications, and are passionate not just about paddling but also about coaching. We’ve spent years refining what truly makes a difference in the sport and are committed to delivering it in the most effective way—by making you feel the learning.
When you join a Hightide course, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of how to keep improving and a structured way to retain what you've learned. We see our role as creating the right conditions for learning, so your progress continues long after the course ends.
