Another new year of adventures is starting and as you have probably already noticed, our schedule for trips abroad has been out for some time already. There are still places left on most of the courses and to help you choose your trip we will explain a little about the trips we are making this year.

Isles of Scilly

Isles of Scilly is part of the enchanting archipelago in England. This archipelago lies just off the coast from Cornwall but is in many ways very different from the Cornish coast. There are over 140 islands of which only five are inhabited so you can be sure to find yourself off the beaten track and enjoying the pristine and unspoilt nature away from the crowds. Life moves at an easy pace and you really feel like being at the end of the world here. The population of all the islands is only around 2 200 people.

With the purest island landscapes, turquoise waters and beautiful sandy beaches Isles of Scilly is quite an unforgettable experience. We are based on St Mary’s which is the largest and most populated of the islands. Paddling around and between the islands gives you an opportunity to see the islands in a very special way. You are kayaking on the Atlantic which is an awesome playground for paddlers wanting to develop their skills into a new level and just have fun in bigger conditions. On the advanced course we do a lot of rock hopping and surfing and practice techniques and rescues on big conditions.

This year we are running a week long advanced course on Isles of Scilly on 5.-12.4. We spend 7 days on the island of which we are paddling on 5 days. That gives us the chance to pick the best conditions possible to make the most out of this trip. The Advanced Week is aimed for paddlers that are on a 3 star level and comfortable paddling over 20 km a day in big swells and winds. The price of the Advanced Week is CHF2195 including 7 nights of accommodation. We offer you also help to plan your travel to Isles of Scilly, you can read more here.

Isles of Scilly is the youngest and newest of our trips, this is the second time we are running a trip there. Last year we also made a film of our trip (film by Marcel Karp):

Levanto, Liguria

Our forever favorite paddling destination lies in the Ligurian region – middle of the famous Cinque Terre. Levanto is a small beach town boasting a long sandy beach with the best sunsets and excellent restaurants to enjoy the Italian culinary world after a day on the sea and surf. The town offers an ideal starting point for exploring the extraordinary villages of Cinque Terre known for their picturesque architecture and charming atmosphere. The little surf town is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the dolce vita outside of the busiest resorts. It’s all part of the package; fresh croissants in the morning, delicious focaccias for lunch, apero at the most interesting pub in the region and a dinner at the pizzeria that was awarded on the world championship level. Not to forget the steaming, freshly roasted espressos every time of the day. We set our foot to Liguria first time in 2013 and have been running trips there at least once a year ever since.

Levanto is situated in the province of La Spezia 90 km southwest of Genoa which makes it an easy destination to drive from Switzerland (6-7 hours from Interlaken). The town has about 5500 inhabitants and a very lovely slow paced and friendly seaside atmosphere, there is no chance of saving yourself from falling in love with the place. The Ligurian coast offers amazing paddle opportunities with lots of cliffs and rocks that create the best playground for great rock hopping. Often we get really good surf as well and end the day having fun in the waves.

This autumn we are running three courses in Liguria; Intro to the Sea, Intermediate Week/3 Star Sea Kayak Award and Advanced Week.

Intro to the Sea

Intro to the Sea course on 7.-11.10. is aimed for paddlers that haven’t kayaked on the sea but have experience on flat water and completed at least a beginner and rescue course. It is not necessary to be completed with us but we do also run them during the summers on lake Brienz, lake Geneva, lake Zurich and lake Zug, read about them here.

Intro to the Sea is a great first touch to sea kayaking and during the week you will have plenty of time to improve your skills efficiently while visiting the nicest spots on the area. Price of this 5 days course is CHF1450 including accommodation in a single room or CHF1075 without accommodation.

Intermediate Week/3 Star Sea Kayak Award

On 14.-18.10. we run an Intermediate Week/3 Star Sea Kayak Award in Liguria. The week is aimed for paddlers that have completed their 2 star award, which you can also do with us on lake Brienz.

Intermediate Week is aimed for paddlers who want to concentrate on technical development on the sea in moderate waters. Two days are spent exploring the coastline and doing lots of rock hopping and when the conditions allow; surfing of course. The second half of the course has more technical focus based on the 3 star sea kayak syllabus and for those wanting to do the assessment this will be done as on-going process during the course. The award can be passed when seeing all relevant criteria set by British Canoeing. Check the syllabus.

We will work together to provide feedback and an action plan to achieve the award or if successful, to take you further in your paddling. Even if you are not looking to do the 3 star award, this course is an excellent training course focusing on personal skills and giving you a new dimension to your paddling.

Price of this 5 days course is CHF1450 including accommodation in a single room or CHF1075 without accommodation.
