Sea Kayak Guide Training

If you want to take people out on the water with confidence in your club or dream of working professionally in paddlesports, we offer a range of courses to suit your needs at the level you want to operate at. We deliver qualifications in Sea Kayaking in the British Canoeing system: qualifications that are recognised worldwide both for their quality and their progressive paddler centred approach.

We offer the safety and rescue certification (FSRT) from British Canoeing, recognising that you’ve received training in rescues of all types of crafts on the lake and the related safety protocols. The British Canoeing CNTP course is a prerequisite the leadership awards on the sea covering navigation and tidal planning. Our guide training focuses on your responsibilities with a group, the common problems we encounter, leadership styles, group management and rescues.

What are the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Awards?

British Canoeing offers three different types of courses:

Personal Performance

British Canoeing offers 3 personal performance awards in sea kayaking. The Sea Kayak Award in more sheltered conditions with limited wind, swell, surf and tide, the Coastal Sea Kayak Award in moderate conditions and the Advanced Sea Kayak Award in advanced conditions.

Leadership

British Canoeing has Leadership qualifications on the lake and the sea. On the sea there is the Sea Kayak Leader in moderate conditions and the Advanced Sea Kayak Leader in advanced conditions.

Coaching

The awards are split into the environment you want to operate in and the depth of coaching knowledge. The “Coach Award” is focused on coaching on the Sea in both moderate and advanced conditions and the “Performance Coach” looks more in depth at coaching processes and long term coaching.
