Our Improver Weekends are aimed at paddlers who have tried it before and who want to explore some of the most beautiful corners of Switzerland whilst further developing your skills.
On our Improver Weekend trips we paddle around 15 km per day for 2 days. We start the weekend on Saturday morning but often meet up already on Friday evening for a drink or dinner as most of us tend to stay at the campsite or nearby.
Lake Brienz is one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland renowned for its turquoise colour, being close to nature and surrounded by mountains and makes for an amazing two day trip, with possibilities to camp or stay in a hotel in Brienz.
The two day trip goes right around the lake, with the first day following the north shore past Ringgenberg, Niederried and Oberried to the woodcarving town of Brienz and the second day along the wilder southern shore with Giessbach, towering cliffs and Iseltwald as highlights.
Some paddling experience and completion of our Sea Kayak Skills and / or Rescue Skills Day.
Experienced British Canoeing qualified Coach, small group ratios (6:1), top quality equipment including neoprenes and jackets if needed and a photograph package of your time with us on the lake.
Swimming clothes, towel, sun protection, footwear that you can get wet, change of clothes, packed lunch (if required - your guide will inform), drinks and snacks, camping gear (if camping).
We recommend camping but it is possible to stay in B&B or the youth hostel in Brienz or if you’d like to stay back in Bönigen, the hotel Oberländerhof has very reasonable rooms and great hospitality.

Please note that our courses and tours run in all weather conditions provided that it is safe to paddle. Often the weather is better than forecast and part of the charm of our sport is experiencing nature in all the elements - even on a rainy day, the views and atmosphere are beautiful and dramatic. We pride ourselves on having top quality equipment, including Palm wetsuits and high-end paddle jackets to ensure that you are warm and happy whatever the weather. If conditions are unsafe to paddle in we aim to notify you as soon as the decision has been made and we will try to re-schedule for the soonest opportunity.
Please note that bookings are subject to our terms and conditions and cancellation policy. We recommend that you have an insurance policy to cover the course costs in case of illness or medical problems. Swiss residents can purchase annual AXA cancellation insurance at the time of booking.
