FSRT Foundation Safety & Rescue Training

Description

This course is for all paddlers and coaches that operate in on a flat water environment, regardless of their craft (kayak, canoe, sea kayak, sit-on-top). It aims to provide the participants with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely and to be able to deal with common problems and emergencies. Self Rescues will be practiced for river kayak, sea kayak and open canoe as well as a variety of techniques rescuing others.

The certificate is one of the prerequisites along with the BCU 2 star certificate to enter the coaching programme at Level 1.

We run our introductory courses from our base at the Strandbad in Bönigen on the beautiful Lake Brienz. Other locations can also be organised depending on demand, so just let us know if you have other places in mind.

Prerequisites

Some paddling experience / completion of a beginner course and some further consolidation.

What to bring with you

Swimming wear, a quick drying t-shirt for under the wetsuit, sunglasses, sunhat, sun cream, footwear to be worn in the water (crocs for example), change of clothes, drinks and snacks, packed lunch

By Public Transport
Bus 103 from Interlaken Trainstation Ost or West to Bönigen See (direction Iseltwald). Runs at :05 & :35 throughout the day taking 5 - 10mins. Check your times at http://www.sbb.ch/fahrplan.html. Short walk (3mins) from the Busstop to the Strandbad. This bus is free with your guest card and runs every 30 minutes from Interlaken Ost or West.

By Car
Direction to Interlaken
Take the A8 to Interlaken. Exit at Bönigen, turn left on to Hauptstrasse and take the first exit at the roundabout on to Interlakenstrasse. After the bridge turn right in to Lütschinenstrasse. You will find a small parking area at the end of the road.

Direction to Brienz
Take the A8 to Interlaken and Exit at A26 Interlaken Ost. Follow the signs to Bönigen. When you get to the bridge turn left in to Lütschinenstrasse. You will find a small parking area at the end of the road.

On foot
From Interlaken Ost follow the signs to the boats. Turn right at the river and follow it along the trail signs towards Bönigen. Turn right after the camping sight and walk to the end of the road (around 35mins).

Weather

Please note that our courses and tours run in all weather that is safe for us to paddle in. Often the weather is better than predicted and part of the charm of our sport is experiencing nature with all its faces and even on a rainy day, the views and atmosphere can be beautiful and dramatic. We pride ourselves on having top quality equipment, including Palm longjohn wetsuits and high end paddle jackets to ensure you’re warm and happy whatever the weather. If conditions are unsafe to paddle in we will notify with as much notice as we can.

Insurance

Please note that bookings are subject to our terms and conditions and cancellation policy. We recommend that you have an insurance policy to cover the course costs in case of illness or medical problems. Swiss residents can purchase annual AXA cancellation insurance at the time of booking.
