Tide race training

Tide Race Introduction

Description

As sea kayakers in Switzerland it may seem difficult to get experience in the more difficult conditions on the sea as we are limited to just a few weeks holiday a year in the playgrounds of Anglesey and Cornwall and beyond. What we ignore though are the huge resources that are around, the ambundance of high volume rivers and white water. A tide race itself is literally a river on the sea formed by tidal movement and actually here in Switzerland we have the perfect training ground to get exactly the right experience, the opportunity to develop moving water skills and have lots of fun to complement what we already have on the diverse lakes here.

The course day starts at 9.15am and ends at 4.15pm. Should you have any further requests or require additional information please feel free to contact us.

Typical Itinerary

The introductory training day is based on the lake, where we introduce or refine some of the techniques needed to successfully paddle on moving water, including edging, low brace turns, support strokes. We also do a refresher on turning and forward paddling so that when we need we can get your boat moving exactly where you need it and quickly. Once we’ve covered these skills we can then put them into practice at the river mouth, where we get some flow and waves in order that you can get the feeling and necessary practice to step it up a level on the river itself. Combining our extensive knowledge both on the sea and on white water we can give you all the support to not only make you happy in the environment but really enjoy it, and get the most out of it.

Tide Race Development

Description

Once you’re feeling comfortable on the lake and feeling confident with your skills we then put it all together in the moving water environment. We’ll have plenty of practice breaking in and out, ferry gliding and getting ourselves in the right positions on the river. We will also have the opportunity to practice our surf skills on smaller and bigger waves and also just having fun riding the wave trains. This really is sea kayaking at its most exciting and opens up lots of new opportunities for advanced sea kayaking in Switzerland.
