Sea Kayak Safety & Rescue

Lake Brienz

Description

This course is aimed at paddlers of all abilities who want to gain more confidence on the water and wish to learn how to self-rescue and rescue others.

In addition to learning new skills and gaining in confidence on the water, the day itself is lots of fun. We’ll practice getting out of the boat after a capsize, a number of self-rescue techniques and look at some of the general safety issues we should be aware of before venturing out on the water.

Once you feel more confident with self-rescue, you will then be taught how to rescue others and you will be able to practice rescuing each other from the water. The course lead will teach you how to use various pieces of equipment including paddle floats, towlines and pumps and we will also discuss how to approach a number of different challenges you could face whilst kayaking.

This is a valuable course as it gives you the skills needed to safely paddle on your own in the knowledge that you are competent in rescuing yourself and others. Our aim is to make you as self-sufficient as possible to enable you to go out kayaking confidently under your own steam.

We run the majority of our Safety & Rescue courses from our base in Bönigen* on Lake Brienz. Here there is good access to the lake via public transport and there is also free parking behind the Hotel Seiler au Lac should you wish to drive. With Lake Brienz’s spectacular turquoise coloured waters and stunning mountain scenery it’s well worth making the trip to this area.

The course day starts at 9.15am and ends at 4.15pm. Should you have any further requests or require additional information please feel free to contact us.

*Other locations can also be organised depending on demand, so just let us know if you have anywhere in mind.
