Beginner Courses One Day

Lake Brienz - Bönigen

Description

During this introductory day we aim to build upon your existing skills so that you leave the day well on your way to become a competent paddler with excellent knowledge of the essential techniques.
We work on efficient forward paddling, turning strokes, and much more. Depending on the weather and time we may also look at basic self-rescue and other rescue techniques to give you plenty of confidence when starting out with the sport.

We run the majority of our introductory sea kayak courses from our base in Bönigen on Lake Brienz. There is great access to our meeting point via public transport (103 bus from Interlaken Ost) or car - there is free parking behind the Hotel Seiler au Lac. With Lake Brienz’s spectacular turquoise water and stunning mountain scenery it’s well worth making the trip to the area.

What’s included

Experienced coach with small group sizes (6:1 ratio of clients to coach), top quality equipment including neoprenes and jackets if needed, photograph package of your time with us on the lake.

What to bring with you

Swimming clothes, sunglasses, sunhat, sun cream, footwear to be worn in the water, change of clothes, drinks and snacks.

Where to meet/How to find us

Hightide Kayak School, Am Quai 1, 3806 Bonigen (opposite the Bönigen See bus stop).

If you are staying in Interlaken, Hightide Kayak School is a short bus ride away (no. 103, direction Iseltwald). This bus is free with your guest card and runs every 30 minutes from Interlaken Ost or West. Alternatively, if you would prefer to drive, there is free parking situated behind the Hotel Seiler au Lac next door to our office.
If you are feeling active, it is also possible to take a short 30 minute walk from Interlaken Ost along the river to our base in Bönigen.

Weather

Please note that our courses and tours run in all weather conditions provided that it is safe to paddle. Often the weather is better than forecast and part of the charm of our sport is experiencing nature in all the elements - even on a rainy day, the views and atmosphere are beautiful and dramatic. We pride ourselves on having top quality equipment, including Palm wetsuits and high-end paddle jackets to ensure that you are warm and happy whatever the weather. If conditions are unsafe to paddle in we aim to notify you as soon as the decision has been made and we will try to re-schedule for the soonest opportunity.

Insurance

Please note that bookings are subject to our terms and conditions and cancellation policy. We recommend that you have an insurance policy to cover the course costs in case of illness or medical problems. Swiss residents can purchase annual AXA cancellation insurance at the time of booking.

Lake Zürich - Uerikon

Our Zürich beginner courses meet at Uerikon, the grassy area right by the lake, on the road to Rapperswil. From here, we have excellent access to the water, free parking is available and it is just a 10 minute walk from the railway station should you choose to arrive by train.
We spend the first half of the morning practicing our paddling technique and once we begin to feel a little more confident we head towards the heart of the historic town of Rapperswil where we stop for lunch. After a stretch of our legs, we make the crossing over to the islands and from here we begin our journey back to Uerikon where we finish with a swim and, time depending, we can address basic self-rescue techniques.
